A Matka Figure Motif Heirloom in Red with Elephant Pallu

Step into the world of Patola, where every thread is dyed before it is woven, and the pattern lives inside the yarn itself long before it ever touches the loom.

This exquisite Rajkot Patola saree is woven in the traditional Matka design with figure motifs, in a rich red multicolour combination, crafted in pure handwoven Patola silk. Rendered through the pure single ikat handloom technique, it unfolds in a row of pot-shaped matka medallions across the body in red, dusty blue-grey and mustard gold, each cradling a flowering tree with elephants, deer and birds set between, bordered by a fine diamond floral trellis and a striking pallu of marching elephants on a deep maroon ground, finished with a radiant orange-gold zari band.

Alternating matka medallions in red, blue-grey and mustard gold each enclose a slender flowering tree, while pink elephants, golden deer and small birds fill the spaces between, rendered in cream, gold and rose against the jewel-toned ground. The border deepens into a fine trellis of pink diamonds and florets, before the pallu opens into a striking procession of pale pink elephants, some bearing riders and ceremonial trappings, marching across a deep maroon ground, and finally a broad, radiant orange-gold zari band. Each figure and medallion takes shape through the painstaking resist-dyeing of the weft yarns before weaving, a pure single ikat technique that demands exceptional patience and precision to bring every motif into crisp focus. The saree is finished with a fringe of hand-tied deep red silk tassels, strung along a delicate crocheted edge.

SILK MARK CERTIFIED

Color - A rich red multicolour combination with dusty blue-grey and mustard gold matka medallions, patterned with figures in pink, gold and cream, framed by a deep maroon elephant pallu and a radiant orange-gold zari border.

Technique - The traditional Matka design with figure motifs, rendered in the pure single ikat weave of Rajkot, in which the weft yarns are resist-dyed and precisely aligned on the loom to bring the pot-shaped medallions, flowering trees, elephants, deer and birds into focus against the plain-dyed warp. Each motif is painstakingly matched on the loom, reflecting the exceptional skill of the weaver.

Fabric - Luxurious handwoven pure Patola silk, with the beautiful character and subtle variations unique to an authentic single ikat weave.

Craft - A handwoven Rajkot Patola in the Matka design with figure motifs, where pot-shaped medallions, flowering trees, elephants and deer unfold across a red multicolour field, crowned by a striking elephant pallu on a deep maroon ground and a radiant orange-gold border, edged with hand-tied silk tassels.

Blouse - An unstitched blouse piece in the same fabric as the saree is included.

The Artful Finish - Ready to wear, with fall neatly done. The pallu is completed with hand-knotted netted silk tassels, adding a graceful final flourish.

Preserving Your Heritage - To honor the artistry of your Patola, cradle it in soft cotton or breathable muslin, ensuring it is refolded every few months to keep the silk supple and free of permanent creases. Guard this treasure from the reach of perfumes, dampness, and the harsh glare of direct sun. Professional dry cleaning is advised to maintain the ethereal luster of the zari and the integrity of the silk. In every thread of Patola, a legacy of craft is preserved.

A Note on Handmade Beauty

No two handcrafted sarees are ever exactly alike. Subtle variations in colour, texture, and finish are part of their charm, the quiet signature of the hands that created them. Colors and textures may also appear slightly different depending on lighting, photography, screen settings, and other viewing conditions.

Every motif tells a story. Every thread carries the artisan's touch. And when you drape it, that story becomes yours.
