The Craft
Six Months, One Saree
Each handwoven saree represents hundreds of hours of meticulous craft, passed down through generations of artisan families across the weaving villages of India.

Design & motif
Every saree begins on paper. Intricate motifs are hand-drawn and mapped onto a naksha, the master grid that guides each thread.

Thread selection
Only the finest Banarasi silk is hand-selected for its lustre and strength.

Natural dyeing
Threads are dyed using traditional techniques, many with natural plant-based pigments.

Warping the loom
Thousands of warp threads are measured, aligned and mounted by hand, a meticulous setup completed before a single motif is woven.

Hand weaving
Each motif is woven in a single pass by master weavers at traditional pit looms, often over many months.

Finishing & inspection
The saree is cut from the loom, gently washed and inspected thread by thread before it earns the TAAR name.
From the Founders
Our Story
We are three women — sisters, friends, mothers — brought together not by business ambition, but by a shared devotion to the saree. Long before TAAR became a name, we were the women who could recognize a Paithani's border from across a room, who traveled for a genuine Patola, who understood that a saree is never just fabric — it is inheritance, artistry, and story woven into six yards.
That devotion is what built TAAR. Not a strategy, but a promise: to bring you as close to the loom as we ourselves have stood.
We travel to the weavers directly — into their homes, their courtyards, their looms passed down through generations — because we believe provenance shouldn't be a claim on a label, it should be a truth you can trace. Every piece we bring to you carries the name, the region, the hands that made it.
This is our vision for TAAR: a bridge between the weavers of India and the women across the world who understand, as we do, that some things are worth more than fashion. Sourced with care. Chosen with an eye trained not in commerce, but in craft.
