A Regal Celebration of Peacocks & Elephants in Srikalahasthi Kalamkari Kanjivaram Silk – Where art is not framed, it is draped.
Step into a vibrant world of traditional Indian artistry, where majestic elephants and graceful peacocks come together in a beautifully structured Kalamkari composition. This exquisite Srikalahasthi Kalamkari Kanjivaram silk saree features an enchanting procession of colourful peacocks and richly adorned elephants, each individually illustrated within neatly arranged rectangular panels. The repeated animal motifs create a rhythmic, almost storybook-like tableau, bringing together the elegance of nature, traditional symbolism, and the expressive character of Kalamkari.
The richly illustrated Kalamkari panel is beautifully framed by magnificent antique-gold Kanjivaram zari borders and a striking red silk accent. The central silk sections are enriched with intricate woven zari patterns, creating a luxurious contrast against the vibrant hand-painted artwork. The combination of the structured boxed motifs, colourful Kalamkari figures, luminous gold, and deep red edging gives the saree a regal yet playful character.
SILK MARK CERTIFIED
Color - A warm mustard-gold and peach ground provides a beautiful backdrop for the Kalamkari artwork, brought alive with shades of royal blue, turquoise, teal, emerald green, purple, pink, coral, orange, red, and ivory. The rich red accents and radiant antique-gold zari borders add warmth, depth, and grandeur to the overall composition.
Technique - Srikalahasti Kalamkari is a freehand, hand-painted textile art created using bamboo kalam and natural dyes. The fabric is treated with buffalo milk and myrobalan to prevent color bleeding, then the design is sketched by hand with charcoal and outlined using a natural iron-and-jaggery black dye. Artisans meticulously fill the motifs with natural colors such as madder red, pomegranate yellow, and indigo blue, using alum as a mordant to fix the dyes. Unlike block-printed Kalamkari, every element is drawn and painted by hand, making each piece a unique expression of traditional storytelling and craftsmanship.
Fabric - Kanjivaram silk, prized for its luxurious texture, graceful drape, natural sheen, and magnificent woven zari work. Its rich silk surface beautifully complements the colourful Kalamkari panels, while the elaborate gold borders lend the saree a timeless ceremonial elegance.
Craft - A magnificent Srikalahasthi Kalamkari Kanjivaram silk saree, bringing together the beauty of peacocks and elephants arranged in charming geometric boxes, surrounded by delicate floral accents and expressive ornamental detailing. Framed by opulent antique-gold zari borders and enriched with traditional red silk accents, this saree is a celebration of nature, symbolism, folk artistry, colour, and the enduring craftsmanship of Indian handloom and Kalamkari tradition.
Blouse - An unstitched blouse piece in the same fabric as the saree is included.
The Artful Finish - Ready to wear, with fall and pico neatly done. The pallu is completed with handmade silk tassels, adding a graceful final flourish.
Care: Store folded in a soft cotton or muslin cloth and recommended to refold every 3 months. Keep away from perfume, direct sunlight and moisture. Professional dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the richness of art and the silk. With Kalahasthi Kalamkari, art is not framed, it is draped.
A Note on Handmade Beauty
No two hand-painted sarees are ever exactly alike. Subtle variations in colour, texture, embroidery, and finish are part of their charm, the quiet signature of the hands that created them. Colors and textures may also appear slightly different depending on lighting, photography, screen settings, and other viewing conditions.
Every motif tells a story. Every stitch carries the artisan’s touch. And when you drape it, that story becomes yours.
